Wireless Router

Wireless router is very important for personal network living.

From technology, Wireless router is mainly classified in wireless wifi router, wireless wimax router, and wireless cell router.
From used filed, wireless router is classified soho (also called in non-industrial) class, and industrial class for Industrial Ethernet Router.
SOHO is for large data use, for example 3G router (including EVDO Router, HSDPA Router, and HSUPA Router, and HSPA Router.)

A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point and a network switch. They are commonly used to allow access to the Internet or a computer network without the need for a cabled connection. It can function in a wired LAN (local area network), a wireless only LAN (WLAN), or a mixed wired/wireless network. Most current wireless routers have the following characteristics:

1. LAN RJ45 ports, normally 1 or 2 or 4 ports, which function in the same manner as the ports of a network switch
2.      A WAN port, normally 1 RJ45 port to connect to a wide area network, typically one with Internet access. External destinations are accessed using this port. If it is not used, many functions of the router will be bypassed.
3.      Wireless antennae. These allow connections from other wireless devices (NICs (network interface cards), wireless repeaters, wireless access points, and wireless bridges, for example), usually using the Wi-Fi standard.
4.      Some wireless routers also include a DSL or cable modem in addition to their other components.

As for the wireless antenna, contains GSM/3G cellular antenna and WiFi/Wimax antenna, with different connecting type, such as SMA. Normally antenna is default packed by manufacturer. High gain antenna is available for replacement to receive better and stronger signal so as to get good receiving and transmission of data.

Cellular Router and Modem Difference

Cellular RouterA cellular router short for cell router, is a router provides shared Internet access by incorporating a cellular data modem and providing common interfaces like Ethernet and WiFi. Different cellular routers work on different networks.
Cellular network are divided into GSM cellular, CDMA cellular and 3G cellular, meanwhile, there are GSM router, CDMA Router and 3G Router.
They can be deployed as a primary WAN link to a location where wired connections are not cost-effective, can also be used as a secondary or business continuity plan should the primary cabled link fail, or can be used in moving vehicles to provide Internet access while in motion. Cellular routers range from simple SOHO network oriented devices through rugged industrial units with advanced features.
For SOHO and high data requirement, 3G Router are the best to use. For small data package transmission, GSM router and CDMA router are enough.
EVDO Router, HSDPA Router, HSUPA Router and HSPA Router are hot used in many different areas such as coffee shop, small shop, home, airport, etc.

Cellular Modem

A cellular modem is a modem provides internet access by the cellular networks on GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA or CDMA/EVDO networks.
Cellular modem provides a USB port or RS232 port. USB port is for high speed data transmission. RS232 port normally is for industrial application for SMS and small package data transmission.

Router supports route features, we can think it built-in modem. Modem is a simple dialing device.
Cellular Router contains Industrial Ethernet Router and SOHO Router.

A Typical Question for Cell Router

We often meet cell router users to ask such questions.
Someone asks “How do set up a Wifi router when the main computer uses a router to get the internet?”
It’s a typical question while using the cell router, especially an Industrial Ethernet Router.

The popular cell router is 3g hspa router with maximum 14.4Mbps download speed or even higher.

Details is as follows:
My computer has a router to connect it to the internet. Well I bought a Wifi router so that I could share the connection but I don’t know how to set it up.
Answer 1: We can draw a map like:
Router —> Wifi Router ——> Wired/wireless computers.
You need to attach the router cable with the WAN side of wifi router and then attach all your computers with the Wifi router either through a cable or wirelessly.
Answer 2: Are you using a “router” that plugs directly into your computer rather than a separate box that is wired in? I have a friend who used one of those and tried to use that computer as a router / gateway using the cell card / router in that machine. In short, it didn’t work.
You can buy a special router that accepts cell based router cards that then act as a normal wired router so you can connect other wireless routers (some may have a built in wireless so you don’t have to get a separate one) and/or other computers to it.

EVDO Cell Router

What is an EVDO Cell Router?
Simply speaking, Cell EVDO Router is a router working with cellular networks based on CDMA2000 EVDO technologies.

EVDO Cell Router contains all other main feature from other normal routers. Such as DNS, DDNS, DMZ, NAT, Firewall, VPN, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, route, etc..

And here is a simple application.
If you need cell network access and flexible routing, you may look on routers with USB jacks. For example people created firmware for WL500GP (and similar devices) which includes drivers for USB-to-Serial ICs (used in mobile phone cables, usb-to-com port converters, etc) so you can attach cell phone or COM-port modem to a router and for example, use it as your backup link (implementing logic you need will require some scripting but that's not a rocket science). Surely this not so easy and requires certain efforts and Linux knowledge but this is way to go if you need something working over cellular network and flexibly routed right
I doubt there is lots of people who uses EVDO or
3g mobile router so I doubt it will have awful market success.

Actually, EVDO Cell Router is mainly used for wired backup. Once your wired cable internet connection is failed, you can switch it to EVDO connection. With maximum 3.1Mbps download speed.

Cellular Router for Finance Solution

As we know, cellular network bring wireless convenience for us, anywhere anytime. Cell router is a cellular device working with the wireless cellular networks. The Industrial Ethernet Router is widely used in different kinds of industrial application. ATM/POS in finance is the one. Users can take the gprs router or 3g hspa router to build a wireless internet connection for the solutions.
In the retail and financial services sectors, one of the top applications of M2M is ATM (automated teller machine) networking. The application can create impressive new revenue by enabling companies to put machines where they might otherwise not have reached.
Since the going rate for an ATM these days is in the $150,000 range, it only makes sense for banks to move these very expensive machines to the areas where demand for quick cash is highest. However, wireline connections are not always available where the action is, be it a where a major sports event is being played, a major concert is being staged, or to a popular shopping mall during the holiday season.

Facilitating a portable ATM relies on a wireless router inside of the ATM sending digital data to the banks central computer over a public wireless wide-area network rather than a leased line. When this M2M solution is properly executed, transactional security is commensurate to what a security officer would like to see in a wired environment.
As 3G public networks continue to be rolled out across the country, banks will begin to use wireless data communications as their primary means of ATM connectivity, replacing the leased lines in place today. And there are other exciting developments coming down the pipe. With the greater bandwidth afforded by 3G, additional options for portable ATMs in development include the addition of location tracking capabilities for stolen or lost ATMs, and video capabilities to record attempted robberies. Sometimes ATMs are not meant to be mobile, and the addition of a GPS receiver is a security feature that should be considered for every cash point machine.

Cell Modem and Router for Scalable digital signage solutions

Cell modem and router is the cellular device with USB/RS232 port or RJ45 ports. With cell modem and cell router, users and system intergrators can build network via cellular wireless network without cable lines.

Now here is a solution with the cell modem and cell router for short information.
Many industries benefit by delivering messages to their customers through digital signage including retail, leisure, hotels, finance and transport. It conveys data such as road traffic congestion, parking directions and passenger information for bus, rail and taxis to ease the decision-making process. Furthermore, digital signage technologies such as video, TFT, LCD, LED and VFD provide ideal mediums for advertising and promotional activities for generating new revenue opportunities.

Business Challenge
Lack of accurate and up-to-date information often compounds problems and increases frustration. Examples include traffic congestion and road incidents where early warnings help to direct traffic away from problem areas. In many cases, "content" needs to be delivered in response to real-time events such as parking availability, bus arrival times and excessive vehicle speeds. Delivering strategic messages to digital signage enables passengers, customers, staff and the public at large to make better decisions. Advertising and promotional opportunities exist for retailers and brand owners. These are especially powerful where there is a captive audience e.g. public transport and retail queues, taxis and public conveniences. Key issues lie with fast updates to remote and mobile locations, especially where they are not easily accessible or in dangerous locations such as track & roadside.

Scalable digital signage solutions
Video, graphic and text signs support proprietary protocols at TCP/IP, serial or Ethernet level. Communication can be added to digital signage using a modem which offers simple remote access or perhaps a router for an Ethernet networked device.
An Internet enabled modem provides access to FTP download sites and a content delivery system offers a complete solution. Intelligent Internet enabled modems enable legacy equipment to be monitored, which can be scaled to a remote monitoring system solution, where information can be delivered in response to real-time events.
Simply words, the remote device connects the cell modem by USB/RS232 port and the cell router by RJ45 ports. Get a sim card for the cell modem and router, it dialup to the internet network to create the wireless networks.
GPRS/CDMA modem is with RS232 ports. And HSPDA / HSPA modem is with USB port.
