Cellular Router Solution for Electricity

The mobile cellular technology is affecting people in the life. Various kinds of cellular devices are used. Such as mobile phones, data card modem, cellular routers.
For industrial application, cellular modem and router can make wireless solution much easier. Here is a example for electricity applications.
The GPRS Router and HSDPA router are widely used for the solution providing the RJ45 Ethernet port for connections.

With rising energy costs there is an increased need to identify utility usage and waste. Take steps in reducing consumption through a remote management Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) solution.

Automatic Meter Reading Background
The traditional utility meter displays energy usage as an accumulation of counts presented to a display, which is used to calculate the monthly bill. It has applications within the electricity, gas and water utility industries for domestic, commercial and industrial applications. Sub metering is often used within a building, retail or industrial facility where it is desirable to measure power consumption for specific equipment, locations or sub-level accounts.

Business challenge
With rising energy costs and environmental pressures through the Climate Change Levy, there is a growing need to reduce power consumption. Reducing losses and waste, and adopting power efficient products and technology can achieve this utilising remote management.

However, since power losses are not easy to identify, it is difficult to determine the key culprits whether they are human users or power-hungry devices. In many cases it is difficult to store energy e.g. electricity, which must be generated to fulfill immediate demand. Predicting usage remains a key issue in an industry where downtime is unacceptable, which is made difficult by slow access to the remote meter readings.

Actually the mobile wireless router and modem are applied for many more applications, which build up wireless solution for costless, convenience.

Mobile wireless router has another version for non-industrial class, with no module inside. Users need get an external usb modem to work, which is called 3g usb router also.

GPRS Router and GPRS Modem

What is GPRS?
GPRS is a cellular network stands for General Packet Radio Service, and it is a protocol for passing data over a mobile phone network. Here is more info knowing about GPRS,
  1. GPRS replaced dial-up cellular modem and cellular router Internet access, offering faster browsing of Internet content and email. It’s an “always on” service”.
  2. GPRS on a cellular modem and cellular router doesn’t use a phone number to connect; it uses something called an APN (Access Point Name).
  3. GPRS has now been largely superseded by faster data network services known as 3G
Mostly the GPRS Router and GPRS Modem are the used to meet users’ internet connection at the beginning. And now the 3G modem and router are more and more popular for high data interconnections.
GPRS and 3G APN settings info.
Normally it requires the four parameters.
1.      Service code (dialing number)
2.      Username
3.      Password
4.      APN code
For example GPRS APN info in China,
Network Provider
Service code
Username
Password
APN code
China Mobile

And 3G APN info
Network Provider
Service code
Username
Password
APN code

In a word, different network provider can use the same service code, username and password, but owns different APN code.
